Dibandingkan dengan browser bawaan mas Bill, Firefox jelas lebih unggul. Bukan cuma saya yang bilang hal ini, banyak pakar yang bilang kalau Firefox lebih bagus. Kenapa? Karena:
- Lebih cepat dibandingkan IE7
- Didukung oleh Open Source, yang artinya sekalinya ada masalah di programnya, biasanya dalam waktu singkat ada perbaikan.
- Lebih Aman, dibandingkan IE lo ya.. karena hacker biasanya menyusup ke IE
- Banyak program pendukungnya, sering disebut “addon”
Selain poin pertama, yang membuat saya sangat suka dengan Firefox adalah addonnya itu lo.. Addon adalah program kecil yang bisa ditempelkan di program utama (dalam hal ini Firefox) yang gunanya membantu membuat program utama lebih powerful.
Ada ribuan addon yang bisa dipasang di Firefox, mulai dari yang sifatnya fun seperti music player (ya benar, kita bisa nyetel music di Firefox, asik kan?) sampai yang serius seperti FTP. Kita nggak akan menginstall semua addon yang ada ke Firefox kita, karena hasilnya akan menjadi berat, cukup yang perlu-perlu aja.
Saya sendiri punya addon favorit yang selalu saya pakai. Berikut ini yang saya pakai:
1. ScribeFire
Gunanya untuk ngetik blog. Kita bisa ngetik blog WordPress di Firefox! Tanpa perlu login dulu kedalam WP.
2. IE Tab
Nggak perlu buka-buka IE lagi kalau ada halaman yang hanya bisa dibuka dengan IE, cukup pakai Firefox dengan addon ini. Kita bahkan bisa mendownload update dari situs Microsoft (yang di situsnya tertulis dengan jelas kalau hanya bisa dilakukan dengan IE only)
3. Download Statusbar
Kalau anda sudah memakai Firefox, pasti anda cukup kesal dengan pop-up windows yang selalu muncul setiap kali mendownload sesuatu. Dengan addon ini, pop-up tersebut hilang diganti dengan statubar kecil dibawah.
4. Mouse Gesture
Ini untuk menjalankan perintah-perintah cukup dengan gerakan mouse. Misalnya aja kalau mau back, kita tinggal klik kanan mouse sambil digerakkan ke kiri. Forward, gerakkan mouse ke kanan sambil klik-drag kanan. Buka windows, naik keatas sambil klik-drag kanan. Ada puluhan gesture yang bisa dipakai. Pernah memakai Opera browser? Mouse Gesture adalah ciptaannya Opera. Dan saya sebenarnya lebih suka pakai Opera kalau ada fasilias addon sebanyak di Firefox.
5. Roboform Toolbar
Yang ini berbayar, mesti beli programnya dulu di sini. Gunanya untuk mengisi password. Sangat-sangat berguna. Can’t run the net business without it.
6. SearchStatus
Untuk menampilkan Google PageRank dan Alexa Rank. Ini berhubungan sama Internet marketing. Sangat simple dibandingkan dengan Google toolbar (yang nggak saya install)
7. Session Saver
Seperti namanya, guna addon ini untuk menyimpan sesi Firefox terakhir. Tab apa saja yang terakhir terbuka. Jadi kalau kita buka Firefox lain kali, akan muncul tab-tab beserta halaman web yang terakhir terbuka.
8. Cooliris
Kalau di WP ada plugin yang namanya Snap, di Firefox ada Cooliris. Addon ini bekerja kalau kita mengarahkan ke tautan di halaman web, akan terbuka pop-up windows yang menunjukkan preview web itu.
9. My Stickies
Biasa bekerja dengan post-it note? Ada padanannya di website. Kita bisa memberikan post-it note di halaman web dengan addon ini. Kita bisa tutup website itu, tutup Firefoxnya. My stickies tetap mengingatnya. Jadi kalau kita buka website itu lagi, akan secara otomatis muncul post-it note yang pernah kita tulis. Oh ya, kita mesti daftar dulu di website My Stickies.
10. Google Notebook
Dengan addon ini kita bisa menulis di Google notebook. Sebenarnya gunanya mirip sama My Stickies.
Ternyata banyak. Tapi semuanya berguna, so, saya pakai semua. Dimana download masing-masing addon ini? Kecuali untuk yang Roboform karena mesti beli, kita bisa masuk ke halaman utama addon dulu, terus masukan nama addon yang dicari di search, pasti ketemu.

Ada bahaya-nyagak kalo kita menambahkan page rank milik google di browser kita, misalnya dihack atau curi dat dari kopi kita. Sorry Mas kalo pertanyaannya aneh, masih newbie banget

Sebenarnya semakin banyak kita menambah addon, akan membuat komputer kita menjadi menyiput (kata dasar: siput).
Karena Firefox termasuk program yang makan banyak resource. Gunakan addon seperlunya aja.
